On September 13, 2005, Drs. Jennifer Conrad and Kirk Wendelburg repaired the front feet of Maverick, an eight-year-old bobcat that had been declawed when it was an illegal pet. Maverick's current home is Forever Wild, a USDA-approved southern California sanctuary. Photograph by Christina Bush.
I'm researching declawing for the paper I am writing for a class entitled "Animal Suffering" and ran across this gorgeous boy. He looks a lot like my two little tigers! Maverick's life hasn't been as cushy however; hopefully his rough days are over now that he's at the sanctuary. Check out www.pawproject.org for more info. And remember - if you want a wild cat, adopt a feral not a literally wild cat!
